Like the previous works One Percent [2013] and Signal Station [2014] this data-driven internet-connected video work continues the visualisation of Newcastle’s shipping movements and, by extension, Australia’s fossil fuel export activity. The intensity of the slow motion video of water dripping from melting ice is in proportion to the number of ships present loading coal in Newcastle — the world’s largest coal export port.
Installation view at Newcastle Art Gallery, February 2016.
Sample video with 7 ships in port out of a possible 9 ships.
