unboxing (noun)
1. the ritualised act of unpacking new products, especially high tech consumer products
2. the infrequent act of turning off ‘the box’ and its mesmerising spectacle of reality-television shows and blockbuster series, for the purpose of connecting with something else — perhaps the earth

Media: installation of electronics, motors, fans, faux gold foil, television carcase, iPhone packaging, LED lights
Exhibited with the “Connecting with Earth” group exhibition at Watt Space Gallery, Newcastle, in February 2017.
“The meaningful history of technology turns out to be a history of its fantasised uses as much as of the shapes it actually takes” – Mark Greif (Against Everything: On Dishonest Times)
